The next time someone tells you Elections don't matter please remind them of the two decisions made by the #SCOTUS made yesterday and today on June 23-24, 2022. In the wake of the massacres and mass shootings in Buffalo, Uvalde, Tulsa, Laguna Woods, Philadelphia, Chattaonga Houston, etc. the Supreme Court decided to overturn the New York bill to restrict weapons outside the home, and residents would need a specific reason to bringing a weapon in public. This decision will have ripple effects in other states including California, Hawaii, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maryland, and Massachusetts. The majority ruling was written by Clarence Thomas citing the constitution, "... an individual's right ... for self-defense outside the home." It should be noted that last week Congress passed the Supreme Court Police Parity Act protecting #SCOTUS and their families after an individual was arrested outside one of the #SCOTUS Justice homes. It is unfortunate that while the SCOTUS and their families are protected they are denied similar protection to their fellow Americans.
Which ties into today's ruling. It was last month that Politico reported a leaked draft written by #SCOTUS Justice Samuel Alito in part "Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak and the decision has had damaging consequences." Chief John Roberts wanted an investigation into who leaked the documents, but has been silent into an investigation and or impeachment of #SCOTUS Justice Clarence Thomas and his spouse Virginia Thomas into allegations of her aiding the #DomesticTerrorists during January 6 or sending emails to then former White House Mark Meadows and emails to state legislators and governors to overturn the 2020 elections.
#SCOTUS Clarence Thomas claimed "government institutions shouldn't be bullied," former Vice President Mike Pence mocked current Madam Vice President Kamala Harris by stating, "I say with the lives of 62 million unborn boys and girls ended in abortion since 1973, generations of mothers enduring heartbreaking loss that can last a lifetime: Madam Vice President, how dare you?" While he was Vice President Pence's mismanagement of the #Covid19 caused an estimated 500,000+ American to lose their lives, in addition, the CDC found between the years 2018-2020 the maternal mortality rate increased from approximately 17%-24%, of which there was an increase for Black, Hispanic and White Women. Black Women were the highest among the three focused groups from an estimated 37%-55%, while Hispanic and White Women also saw an increase from 11%-18% and 14%-19% respectively.
Since #SCOTUS overturned #RoevWade (1973) states immediately rolled out their action to restrict or ban abortions altogether. Missouri wasted no time by stating all abortions are banned, the Attorney General Eric Schmitt stated in part, "... my office effectively ended abortion in Missouri, becoming the first state in the country to do so following the courts ruling." Arizona also had similar law implementing a 15-week ban that would go into effect in the next 90 days. Lousiana has implemented the "trigger law" alongside several states which makes it legal to ban all abortions from the moment of fertilization (SB342). In Texas, abortion clinics have immediately stopped.
Other states such as Oklahoma, and Tennesse have similar laws in place that were passed last month prior to today's ruling. Oklahoma passed a bill that would ban abortions from the stage of fertilization (HB 4327) citing "... fusion of a human spermatozoon with a human ovum." In Tennesse, the governor signed a bill adding criminal penalities as a Class E Felony punishable up to $50,000. It should be noted that Tennesse already has passed legislation that would automatically ban abortion once RoevWade is overturned.
Overall over 20 states have trigger laws or RoevWade bans including West Virginia, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennesse, Arizona, Missouri, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Lousiana, and Utah to name a few.
This leads back to White Women who have constantly voted for the #GuardiansofPutin #GQP #GIP for the past 70+ years. Back in 2015, former Secretary of State and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton was warning the country of what would occur, "A Republican president could nominate as many as 4 Supreme Court Justices. Why that should terrify you." Black people knew the danger of the former POTUS 2x IMPEACHED 1 Term, many White Women thought it was a joke, and made a mockery of voting. Black People can not afford to make that type of mistake especially Black Women like myself who knows the traps of policies that will later grave impact on current and future generations to come. Voting is critical.
Let's be very clear today's ruling will have future impact on future rulings/cases including
#ObergellvHodges #GriswoldvConnecticut #BrownvBoardofEducation #PlylervDoe #LovingvVirginia etc. America the choice is yours. This is not the time to sit on the sidelines, countries around the world follow our lead.
