Disclosure: This is (Part II) of the previous segment. If you are easily offended or triggered please stop reading. For the individuals who wish to continue to read this blog post, thank you, and let's keep the conversation going.
White Women have benefited from White Supremacy, White Privilege, and other forms of Systematic entities. Let's focus on the past 70+ years. White Women have voted for the GOP (GQP) (GIP) which impedes the progress of the United States. White Women will literally go to rallies and protests about women's rights and social inequalities and still vote for their own interests. Even though White Women make .81 cents to the $1 of their White men counterparts. As Black women make .65 cents, Native American women make .60 cents, and Hispanic women make .59 cents. Asian women make the highest among races with .88 cents while the average women's pay for women is .81 cents. White Women still continue to vote and support alleged or known predators, abusers, and domestic terrorists for the safety and benefit of being on the top.
In 2016, we as a nation had the most qualified candidate in the past 50 years her name is Hillary Rodham Clinton, and the conversations I heard from White Women besides "the emails" was she took Bill back. Now what two individuals do in their relationship shouldn't be a reason not to vote or withhold a vote. Isn't the right thing to do is forgive and possibly become a stronger and better union. Wait I forgot everyone is supposed to be perfect and when mistakes are made no grace should be given.
So, when White women denied Hillary Clinton and chose the now Twice (2x) Impeached 1 (One)-Term POTUS 45 by 53%, continued to increase their support by 55% in 2020, and in Virginia increased again by 57% last year. Now you may be wondering why does it matter? It does matter because Roe v. Wade mentioned in Part (I) is now being overturned. White women thought it was cool to joke about the election, and spread misinformation, disinformation, and lies about Hillary Clinton including actress Sandra Sarandon in part "... I thought Hillary was dangerous. If she'd won, we'd be at war." White women can afford to cry, joke, lie, and even skip elections, without any sense of accountability because it does not and will not affect them directly.
Unfortunately, Black Women, like myself can not do any of the four because when the elections are over and policies become laws it greatly impacts our communities first, particularly the bad ones. As the reality of Roe v. Wade sits White women and their supporters White-Adjacent and some Black folks, are once again throwing a fit and trying to blame the Democratic party. There is no majority if there are limited power within the Senate and a slim majority in the House. Elections have long-term impacts for decades and generations to come.
Earlier this week Governor Abbott of Texas announced that his state will challenge SCOTUS's decision of Plyler v. Doe (1982) which states undocumented children had the right to attend public schools. The SCOTUS ruling cited "... education has a fundamental role in maintaining the fabric of our society." Which leads to a productive economy for all. This ruling was attached to the 14th Amendment within the Equal Protection Clause. This can affect the Brown v. Board of Education (1954) which ruled that segregation due to race in public institutions violated the Equal Protection Clause also in the 14th Amendment.
As it pertains to the LGBTQ+ Communtiites Abbot has announced that parents who have transgender children should be considered child abusers citing giving them medical treatment should be investigated. Abbot and his administration have removed the Trevor Project which is considered the nations crisis and suicide prevention organization. Other LGBTQ+ resources are removed from Texas Human & Health Services. Texas passed an Anti-Voting law called Senate Bill 1 which limits state election laws and restricts local control, and limits counties in Texas the ability to expand voting options. This all leads back to White Women as in 2018, for the Texas governor race 67% voted for Abbot.
Governor DeSantis is trying to remove everyone who does not fit his vision. DeSantis has removed two Black Congressional Districts which sent Rep. Al Lawson of Florida's 5th District and Rep. Val Deming of Florida's 10th District. Which will impact voters in the Primary (August 23, 2022) and General Elections (November 8, 2022) as DeSantis and the #GuardiansofPutin have re-districted the map leaving little room to make amendments. This will impact voting this year and everything you have enjoyed as a Floridian resident. The Voting bill Florida has in place would restrict individuals from mailing in their ballots and dropping off their ballots at approved drop boxes.
Other laws or restrictions that affect Non-White Communities is when DeSantis rejected 41% of Mathematics textbooks citing "Critical Race Theory" #CRT which was NEVER taught to children (K-12) because it is a special course being taught at the Graduate level. Additional laws from DeSantis have been filed to dictate such as the Stop WOKE Act on concepts of race censorship being brought up in schools and businesses alike.
DeSantis and the (GIP) (GQP) #GuardiansofPutin in Florida have also passed the Don't Say Gay Bill in the House of Representatives back in February and will officially become law on July 1, this year. The Don't Say Gay Act would prohibit individuals to speak on the topic of Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation in a school setting. Critics have cited that this bill can cause a ripple effect on the LGBTQ+ communities as it will attack the population and their families alike.
DeSantis and the (GIP) (GQP) #GuardiansofPutin fury continued as they reign as they stripped Walt Disney of its Self-Governing status which was established in 1967. Due to the fact, that Walt Disney refused to support the Don't Say Gay Act its estate Reedy Creek Improvement District is an independent entity exclusively run by Disney. The agreement between Florida and Disney states there is no limitation to the terms made with the holders of any bonds and no shifting of the bondholders' rights or changing the agreement for costs, bonds and expenses are fully met. This would lead Florida residents to a $1 billion dollar loan and the highest tax rate in the country according to economists. Once again all roads lead back to White Women as they voted for DeSantis by 51%, which he won by approximately 32,400 votes.
I recently expressed my point of view and was met with a white man telling me how "... White Supremacy is a meaningless term now. Nice Try. ... Nobody is accountable to you" after the back and forth I blocked him. I will not be forced to change my point of view because it makes you comfortable with White Supremacy. I have seen it on social media daily when receipts are brought forth with facts, articles, and figures from Black people the trolling, reporting, and blocking begins.
Being a Black Woman in America who is also Caribbean and with a speech impediment, I can't afford to be silent, sit out or withhold my vote for a look. I can not afford to be oblivious to this upcoming election or the next one after this year. My continuous engagement is not only for myself but for the generation after me. I can't disrespect the ancestors within the diaspora who bled and died for my freedom which I hold true today. I can't afford to be complacent because a party won't engage with me. I am continuously learning and willing to become a better human. With the relationships I have developed on social media I have re-gained my purpose. I knew the purpose of voting, and seeing its impact in 2016, made me well aware that White women will always look out for themselves. Roe v. Wade is just the beginning as soon other laws will be overturned or attempted to completely remove other laws including Brown v. The Board of Education, Marriage Equality Voting Rights, etc. basically anything that is non-white and deemed taboo by their standard.
White women speak of sisterhood and supporting women but the fact of the matter is "When Black Women Win, every other race of women wins ... when white women win, every other race of women loses."-Mr. Weeks.
What can you do to ensure the United States can continue to become a free democracy start voting with the mindset of long-term effects for other communities besides yourself. Start with doing Google searches Congress.gov about laws being passed who supported and who denied the bills. For further information on voting start visiting your state's governmental websites on their requirements for voting. Call or send letters to your Congressperson for information if you are unsure.
